Master of Health Practice

If you have a degree in nursing or a health-related area and you'd like to extend your knowledge and skills for advanced practice in the health sector, this programme will build on your specialist knowledge, enabling you to progress in your career.

You'll demonstrate mastery of your area of specialist practice or knowledge and demonstrate capacity for leadership.

Please Note:

  • You'll choose any four courses from the full list (excluding the Level 900 courses) to complete a Post Graduate Diploma of Health Practice or equivalent. You'll then need to complete two additional Level 900 courses.
  • This programme includes compulsory two-day onsite workshops for some courses.
  • Not all courses are offered in both semesters.
  • Some courses are prerequisites for others.
  • This programme is not open to international applicants.
  • Credit Recognition requires you to apply 4-8 weeks prior to allow time for processing.

Part time up to 5 years.

B Average or better in the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Practice or equivalent (120 credits at level 8)

Provide evidence of having completed a relevant professional qualification; and

  • Provide evidence of successful completion of a relevant qualification or programme of study which is equivalent to those of first degree graduates, through the submission of a portfolio of evidence.

What if English is not my first Language?

If English is not the applicant's first language, applicants will need to provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart

  • Applicants who do not have evidence of English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, may contact Ara for an assessment.
  • Note: IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
  • The English Language requirements for this programme are higher than the minimum set by NZQA; therefore, applicants who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance may be required to provide evidence of English Language skills.
