Fales built with skill, received with joy
08 November, 2018
Two carefully handcrafted fales, modelled on traditional Pasifika buildings, were delivered to Samoan pre-schools in Linwood and Aranui yesterday and received positive feedback from the most important recipients – the children.
Children at “Tino e Tasi Pre School” in Aranui check out the new fale built and donated by Ara Trades department.
Carpentry students from Ara’s Dual Enrollment pathway built the two structures over some five months while attending Ara one day per week. Māori Trades Training students helped to deliver the fales to Mapusaga Fou Pre School in Vili Place in Linwood and Tino e Tasi Pre School in Shortland Street, Aranui.
Children and teachers were delighted with the gifts.
The trades students benefited from practicing their skills building the fales and then seeing their work being put to good use. Ara’s carpentry department regularly donates their work to community organisations.
