The Master of Applied Management (180 credit) is a Level 9 qualification designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field.

It focuses on applying knowledge to real-world challenges, enhancing your skills in key management areas, and preparing you for leadership roles in diverse business environments.

You can deepen your expertise through coursework, a combination of coursework and a project, or a substantial research component.

The programme’s flexible structure, diverse pathways and emphasis on sustainability and varied organisational contexts will prepare you to lead confidently, innovate effectively and make a meaningful impact in today’s global business world.

Programme Structure

The Master of Applied Management offers two options:

  • 180-credit programme for those with a business or business-related bachelor’s degree
  • 240-credit programme for those with a bachelor’s degree in a non-business discipline

Both options include studies at Levels 8 and 9, with at least 45 credits at Level 9. The 180-credit option can be completed in 18 months full-time or up to six years part-time. The 240-credit option requires two years full-time or up to six years part-time.

Core Philosophy

The programme is built on professional competencies and specialised focus areas. You will develop expertise across eight critical areas: money, markets, people and culture, planning, technology, innovation, globalisation and sustainability.

The programme places emphasis on two key areas:

  • Sustainable Business: Preparing you to lead organisations with environmental and social responsibility
  • Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs): Equipping you to address the unique challenges and opportunities in SME management

International Fee
$40,300 per year

A Bachelor Honours or Postgraduate degree in the Business or Management field with 120 credits at Level 8

Or an NZQF-listed undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in the Business or Management field with a minimum of the equivalent to a B average (as per the Ara-specified 11-point achievement-based grading system)

OR a degree or equivalent professional qualification in a related field with a minimum of the equivalent to a B average (as per the ARA 11 point grading system)

  • and evidence of management experience at degree level, and assessment from the programme coordinator

What if English is not my first Language?

If English is not your first language, we want to make sure that you will be successful in your chosen programme of study.

  • Please provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives English Proficiency Outcomes Chart.
  • IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.
  • Completion of a New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 5 with any endorsement)
