Student ID Card
An Ara Student ID card gets you access to facilities on campus, and discounts across New Zealand.
Once you’ve fully enrolled, you can get an Ara ID card which is valid for the duration of your study. It has many benefits and allows you access to many things in and around the campus, including:
- use of our Health Centre
- use of the Library and Learning Services
- afterhours access to the campus and 24 hour computing suites
- use of the photocopiers
Obtaining your card
On your first day, take your student ID number to the security office and ask for a Student ID card. They will verify that you are enrolled, take your photo and provide you with your ID card. There is no cost for your ID card.
At our City campus, the Security office is in the Rakaia Centre. They are open 8.00am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday.
If you're at Woolston campus, go to the main desk in the Student Services building.
At the Timaru campus, you can get your card at Registry in A Block or staff can post it to you.
Lost or stolen cards
If your card is lost or stolen it will be cancelled and a new card can be issued (replacement cards cost $10). First though, you need to report that it’s missing. If you’re based at the City campus, report it to Security in the Rakaia Centre. If you’re at the Woolston campus, report it at the Student Services Building. If you’re studying in Timaru, Oamaru or Ashburton, report it to Student Central or reception.
To replace a lost or stolen ID card, go to Student Finance (X110 in the Rakaia Centre at City campus or Student Services Building at Woolston campus) to pay for it. Then take your receipt to Security to have your new card made.
After-hours access
Your Ara card comes with the 24 hour computer lab access loaded onto it. To be able to access other course specific areas, please contact Security for access.
Credit your ID card for printing
You can add credit for printing onto your ID card in MyAra using ‘Print Balance’. Additionally, if you’re based at the Timaru, Oamaru or Ashburton campuses you can get credit added by visiting Student Central or reception.
