Ara is participating in a national Advanced Energy Technology research and development programme in which Ara’s goal is to grow the capability and knowledge of learners in this emerging sector.
Ara is working in collaboration with a number of research organisations who are researching and developing the next generation of technology for high performance electric motors for the transport sector (aircraft, ships and trains). See an example here: Home - Electric Transport
The purpose of this scholarship is to support and foster Māori, Pacific and women learners who have an interest in this particular sector of Engineering (Mechanical and Electrical / Electronics), who are facing disadvantage and/or inequitable access to tertiary education which would otherwise present a barrier to them in studying engineering.
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for one of these scholarships you must:
- Be of Māori or Pacific descent, OR
- Be a woman (assigned female at birth and/or self-identify as female)
AND - Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- Meet the entry requirements for the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering or Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Mechanical or Electrical/Electronics).
- Be enrolled full time at Ara Institute of Canterbury (part time students can apply but will receive a proportional amount)

How to Apply

- Provide a personal statement (up to 500 words) that outlines the special circumstances that make you a candidate for this scholarship
- Provide two referee reports which comment on your ability to succeed in this programme and attest to your character. (Please use the templates provided below.). One referee should be from a schoolteacher or Ara tutor.
