Lee Tuki

It aims to equip graduates with the ability to mentor others to deliver improved quality, accountability and effectiveness in the workplace, through critical reflection, compliance, risk minimisation and service delivery.

Lee Tuki decided to undertake the postgraduate certificate to gain a formal qualification in professional supervision with the goal of enhancing both her scope of practice and her career opportunities.

She graduated with the qualification in December 2022, having studied it while based in Greymouth where she works as the Kaiwhakahaere of the West Coast Covid Hub at Te Whatu Ora Te Tai o Poutini. The mostly online delivery of the course made it possible for her to study it remotely.

Lee says the course was even better than she’d imagined it would be. “I loved every minute of it. I had the flexibility to study remotely and the ability to bring my role and workplace into my assignments, assessments, presentations and essays.”

She adds that her tutors enabled her to flourish at postgraduate level. “I really liked the experience and knowledge they brought to their teaching. They were also very respectful, supportive and professional and they role modelled great ethics and practice. Collectively, they were an absolute wealth that added to my practice and professionalism.”

Lee says the course has given her many new tools that align to her current practices. “I’ve come away with a clear vision of practice, I know what my strengths are and where I can develop, and I can align my new skills to the founding documents of Aotearoa. My kete is fuller and I can confidently provide professional supervision that embeds Te Tiriti o Waitangi into everyday practices, policies, procedures, strategic directions and plans.”

Lee is now full steam ahead “bringing goals and aspirations to life using innovative and inspiring values and strengths-based solutions”. And it looks like more study is on the cards. “I’ve always wanted to be Dr Lee Tuki,” she says.
