Frequently asked questions

Does Ara accept applications from outside New Zealand?

Yes, we do. Te Pūkenga is an accredited employer with Immigration NZ. This means we can assist the preferred candidate with their visa application if they meet the job and immigration criteria.

How long does the application process take / when will I hear from Ara?

Most processes are completed within 4-6 weeks after the application closing date. This can vary where we have a high volume of applications or if there are unforeseen delays. We will be sure to update you on the status of your application at each step of the process, including if there are any delays.

How will I know if Ara has received my application?

You will receive an automatic email acknowledging receipt of your application. If you don’t receive this, please check your Junk or Spam folder.  You can also Sign in to your account to check the status of your application. Once signed in, please click on “My account” on the top right of your account. If you can’t see your application here, please contact the Recruitment team on Recruitment@ara.ac.nz or 03 940 8222.

How do I view the position details / Job Description for a vacancy?

When you are on the Current Opportunities page, click on ‘Read more’ to view the advertisement and position details. The Job Description will be linked at the bottom of the page before the ‘Apply’ button.

Do I have to be living in Canterbury / New Zealand to apply?

No, Ara accepts applications and employs people from outside of Canterbury and New Zealand. Most positions however will require you to be living in the Canterbury Region to start the role, and some positions will be specific to a particular campus.

Do I have to apply online?

Due to the large number of applications Ara receives across our advertised positions, we require all applications to be submitted online.

Please note that we do not hold on to CVs/applications for future vacancies as it is considered more appropriate for the applicant rather than Ara employees to decide which, if any, positions suit an individual to apply for.

Can I apply for more than one job at a time?

Yes. You are welcome to apply for any jobs that you believe match your experience and career aspirations.

How do I update my contact details?

Please Sign in to your account and click on ‘My account’ in the top right corner. From here you can click on ‘view your profile’ and then ‘edit your profile’ to update your contact information.
